Sharp As A Tack – By Cherie Galbraith

Don’t be fooled by my appearance
Don’t mark me down like something on clearance
Cause I am still in here, It’s still me
I just move a little slower with a shuffle as you can see
But sometimes when I get frustrated because I can’t move my body
I shout at the ceiling to anyone up there
Hopefully, someone who’s godly
Why me? I ask,
What did you have intended
I am tired of this disease, “Please can’t I be mended”?
But so far no answer, so I’ll just keep on praying
It gets frustrating all this involuntary movement
All this shaking and swaying
So when I get upstairs and I’m facing “The Man”
I’ll ask him, Why Me” I don’t understand
But I’m sure there will be a very good reason
For me to have had Parkinson’s disease for so many seasons
But until then I’ll just get on with living
The best that I can with this body that I have been given
And anyway life is still not all that bad, I am still very happy
Just some days are good and others are crappy
But at least my brain is still working
It’s as sharp as a tack
And when they find a cure for Parkinson’s
I’ll be off like a whirlwind
There will be no holding me back
I have so much to do and so much to see
And travelling the world is definitely for me
So as long as I’m breathing, I’ll never give up on dreaming
As long as I have faith and hope I’ll never give in
Because I am a winner and I’m in this to win.
