I Remember – By Linchay Bone

I remember…….
Walking through Civic
slapping my head from side to side
a punch and judy show for shoppers,
oblivious to stares I yanked my hair
anything – to banish the voices.

the pushing infuriating
moments of infuriation
when my throat
my wrists
were my worst enemy.

the nights of frozen fright
windows tight door jammed
wind locked in slits moaning
when the danger was inside
and I couldn’t get out.

I remember the screaming fits
the cup and plate smashing
in the sink
anything to block
the mind deafening conversation
fever pitch,
fraying my head.

I remember
accosting visitors
‘Isn’t there anything
that can be done?’

I remember there wasn’t.
