Welcome Dr Trishima Mitra-Kahn as the new Director-Programes and Policy

Dr Trishima Mitra-Kahn has worked for over 15 years in leadership and senior management roles on gender equality and gendered violence across academia, systemic advocacy and government in Australia and the UK. Her roles have included: Deputy and Acting CEO at Domestic Violence NSW; Transitional Chief Executive Officer at the Luke Batty Foundation; Director, Research Program at Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety Ltd; Manager- Domestic Violence Strategy at NSW Department of Justice; and Program Manager at Australian Women Against Violence Alliance.

A sociologist by training, she has also been a researcher on violence prevention projects for the UK Home Office and the European Commission. Trish is passionate about good governance in the for-purpose sector, she has previously sat on the Board of the Feminist and Women’s Studies Association UK & Ireland and is currently a Non-Executive Director at Down Syndrome NSW and Childhood Domestic Violence Australia. She has also held advisory positions on the NSW Women’s Alliance, Council of Social Services NSW, Equality Rights Alliance and 1800 RESPECT.

As proud woman of colour with a physical disability, Trish has a deep commitment to advancing the rights and freedoms of women with disabilities and structurally removing barriers to their workforce participation, retention and career progression.

Message from Trish

I am deeply excited about commencing my role as Director-Policy and Programs at Women with Disabilities Australia (WWDA) and working alongside such a dedicated, principled and high-performing team. My focus will be leading policy and project work to support and build the individual capacity of our incredible members and our valued team through a range of mechanisms and initiatives.

I am passionate about self-determination, authentic inclusion and amplifying and harnessing the expertise of lived experience. I am so privileged to find myself at WWDA and can’t wait to work with you all.
