WWDA is excited to announce that Federal Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, has today announced a additional funding for WWDA totalling $42,500 to undertake a project that directly supports and benefits young women and girls with disability.

The announcement comes on International Day of the Girl Child, a global event recognising the rights of young girls around the world, whilst also acknowledging the ongoing challenges they confront.

Speaking at the announcement, Senator Cash said:

“I am delighted to support the work of Women With Disabilities Australia to inform, empower and inspire young women and girls with disability”

“There are over 100,000 young girls with disability in Australia. Today we recognise that empowering these girls is not only good for the individual, but also for families, communities and society at large.”

The six-month project will help young girls with a disability understand and advocate for their rights.

The funding is in addition to $275,000 provided to WWDA in 2015-16 under the Australian Government’s Women’s Leadership and Development Strategy.

“Australia will continue to be a strong and committed advocate for gender equality, girls’ empowerment and the advancement of the rights of girls internationally.”
