The Australian Government is looking at the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). This law makes it illegal to discriminate against people with disability in areas such as work, education, housing and access to services. The Government wants to know if the DDA is still working and how it can be improved.
Recommended by the Disability Royal Commission, this review is important because it is the first full review of the Act since it was introduced in 1992. Learn more on the DDA review webpage here.
Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA) is preparing a submission to the review. We want to make sure the voices and experiences of women, girls and gender-diverse people with disability are heard and included. To do this, WWDA has create a new member survey, to hear your views and experiences.
What you share in this survey will help shape our submission.
We want to hear your views on some key issues, such as:
- How disability is defined,
- How the law should deal with intersectional discrimination,
- Access to supports and adjustments,
- Positive duties to prevent discrimination, and
- How the law can be updated to better protect the rights of people with disability.
Through meaningful consultation, we can make sure that our needs and rights are considered and respected.
