Last Thursday, 24 September 2020, The Australian Human Rights Commission and the Centre of Research Excellence in Disability and Health held the National Disability Strategy (NDS) – Beyond 2020 webinar.

The webinar discussed community expectations of the strategy and key elements which needed to be addressed in the planning of the strategy prior to its launch next year. The webinar was hosted by Disability Discriminator Commissioner, Dr Ben Gauntlet and featured the Minister for Social Services Anne Ruston as well as people with disability, academics and researchers.

WWDA’s Project Officer, Heidi La Paglia, created a video which was presented at the webinar and highlighted the importance for a gender lens focus for the NDS.

Heidi said “An effective NDS would not only recognise the way in which these gender biases occur but also respond to them.”
