In 2020 WWDA received funding from the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) Program to deliver a new project called WWDA LEAD – Lead, Engage, Activate and Drive.

The WWDA LEAD project is focussed on promoting and advancing the leadership, agency, autonomy, human rights and freedoms of women, girls, feminine identifying, and non-binary people with disabilities, both individually and collectively.

One of the key deliverables of the WWDA LEAD project is the delivery of a National Leadership Summit in 2022, which brings together WWDA members from across the country

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of ensuring that the summit is accessible to a broad range of women, girls, feminine identifying, and non-binary people with disabilities; WWDA staff have made the decision to hold the WWDA LEAD summit online, rather than in person. The WWDA LEAD National Summit will be held in November 2022.

The Summit Codesign Committee aims to function as an important vehicle to include and amplify the voices, insight and knowledge of different cohorts of women, girls, feminine identifying and non-binary people with disability, including: First Nations women with disability, LGBTIQA+ women with disability, women with disability living in poverty, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women with disability, women with disability from refugee and migrant backgrounds, women with disability from rural, regional and remote locations, women with disability with lived experience of institutionalisation, segregation and/or incarceration, women with intellectual or cognitive disability, and young (15-30) women with disability.

The WWDA National Summit will be facilitated by WWDA LEAD staff and supported by an external online media service provider. We are opening expressions of interest to all WWDA members to fill 10 individual representative positions to assist develop, inform, guide, advise and support the WWDA LEAD National Summit. We will assess applications based on both the skills and lived experiences we have identified in the WWDA Summit Codesign Committee’s Terms of Reference.
