Women With Disabilities Australia stands in solidarity with First Nations communities and First Peoples Disability Network Australia (FPDN), in calling for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.
We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the inclusion of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice in the Australian Constitution.
We celebrate the voices and expertise of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability.
We believe that the best people to make decisions about laws and policies are the people whose lives are impacted by them.
Do you need more information?
On the 14th of October, people in Australia will be asked to have their say about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.
They will be asked if the law should be changed to create an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ‘Voice’. The Voice would be a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples who would give advice to the Government on laws and policies that affect their communities.
People will have their say by making a vote. This is called a Referendum.
Everyone has the right to information to help them to make an informed decision.
