Dear [Candidate’s Name],
As the federal election approaches, I write to you as a voter in your electorate, and as a person with disability, who is concerned about the future of our community. I care deeply about disability rights, safety and justice, and I urge you to support meaningful and necessary change.
I am a member of Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA), who advocate for the rights, safety and overall wellbeing of women, girls and gender-diverse people with disabilities. They recently shared three key election asks that would greatly benefit our community and I wanted to share these with you as my local representative. They are:
- funding for a disability-led gender-based violence working group, to guide the implementation of the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children,
- the reform of current legal definitions of ‘domestic and family violence’, to be disability-inclusive, in line with Disability Royal Commission recommendations,
- a commitment to establishing gender-responsive foundational supports for people with chronic health conditions, so they can access the support they need.

The disability community face many barriers to healthcare, safety and support – being recognised and supported by our elected representatives is just the first step to fairness and equality. I support WWDA’s call for action, because they reflect the lived experiences of so many in our community.
I ask for your support of these asks; to enter this new term with the intention to create reforms that will improve the lives of women, girls and gender-diverse people with disabilities.
I look forward to your commitment to ensuring better outcomes and wellbeing for all Australians. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
