Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA) is pleased to welcome the release of the National Autism Strategy (2025–2031). The Strategy reflects several key areas of our advocacy, particularly its recognition of women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disability.
Our latest position statement on the National Autism Strategy highlights the Strategy’s strengths, including:
- An intersectional approach
- Focus on gender-responsive policies
- Commitment to neurodiversity-affirming practices
- Recognition of barriers to diagnosis for marginalised genders
While these developments are encouraging, there is still significant work to be done. WWDA is calling for:
- Clear guidance on foundational supports beyond the NDIS
- Coordinated responsibility for healthcare commitments
- Paid, community-led co-design initiatives
- Targeted employment programs
- Specific focus on marginalised groups
- Robust accountability measures
WWDA looks forward to collaborating with the Autistic community to support the Strategy’s implementation and advocate for inclusive, impactful outcomes.
