WWDA works to promote the human rights of women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities in all of their diversity.

We want to empower women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities to live fulfilling lives by speaking up for their rights and wellbeing.

Our values and approach

We are a Disabled People’s Organisation. Our work is led by women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities, for people with disabilities.

  • We stand up for human rights.
  • We are a feminist organisation that celebrates different identities and experiences.
  • We are inclusive and collaborative. We work together for better outcomes for women, girls and gender-diverse people with disabilities.
  • We have goals for the next year.

Goal 1

We will keep working to improve the human rights of women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities in Australia.

  • We will speak up for the right to live free from violence and abuse.
  • We will speak up for the right to make choices and be involved in decisions.
  • We will speak up for sexual and reproductive rights.
  • We will speak up for economic security, including the right to work.
  • We will speak up for the right to health.

Goal 2

We will continue to be a leader in Australia and around the world for the rights of women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities. We will help to create, put into action, and monitor the laws, policies and rules that support these rights, to make sure that our community’s voices are heard.

Goal 3

We will make our organisation stronger. We will build strong systems and support in our organisation and for the people who work at WWDA. This will help us to reach our goals, make a long-lasting impact, and be a strong organisation for the future.

Closing statement

There are over 2 million women and girls with disabilities in Australia, each with their own experiences. We celebrate the diversity of our community, including people who are gender-diverse, First Nations people, LGBTQIA+ people, people from different cultural backgrounds, and people with all disabilities.

At WWDA, we make sure that the rights and voices of women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities are part of everything we do. We empower our members, speak up for our rights, and work for a world where everyone is heard, included and respected. We support our communities and work with them to create change – because there is nothing about us without us.

At Women With Disabilities Australia, we believe in a world that values people with disabilities and upholds our human rights – and where women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else.
