Disability Royal Commission public hearing 20 transcripts and video available online.
Public hearing 20 was held online in early December 2021. It focused on two case studies relating to the experiences of people with disability who received accommodation and support services from Life Without Barriers. One case study focused on a group home in Victoria and the other on a group home in northern New South Wales.
Senior Counsel Assisting, Patrick Griffin SC, in his opening address on Day 1 emphasised the rights of people with disabilities to have relationships and intimacy:
‘Sexual and reproductive rights are fundamental human rights and they are enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These encompass the right of every person to make choices about their own bodies, their sexuality and their relationships, without any form of discrimination. This is fundamental to who we are as people, the choices we make, our dignity and our identity.’
The videos of the hearing and transcripts are now available on the DRC website here.
